India’s palm oil imports slid 16.3% month-on-month to 829,017 metric tons in September 2025, the lowest level since May, as refiners pivoted to cheaper soft oils amid volatile pricing, according to the Solvent Extractors’ Association of India. Industry analysts expect the pullback to pressure Malaysian palm oil futures while lending support to U.S. soyoil.
Soyoil arrivals surged 36.8% to 503,240 tons—the highest since July 2022—after Argentine cargoes became more competitive when export taxes were briefly suspended. Sunflower oil inflows climbed nearly 6% to 272,386 tons, pushing total edible oil imports slightly lower at 1.60 million tons overall. Traders anticipate palm oil purchases could fall toward 600,000 tons in October, with soyoil imports remaining above 450,000 tons.
